A business website that is paired up with a hosting company with poor customer service means there is little to no communication going on between the two. This lack of communication negates any type of technical proficiency the hosting provider may have. A hosting service that has perfect uptime and never makes mistakes is still useless if its customer service is poor.
If the customer makes a mistake that only the hosting service can correct, it will have to be open to feedback from the customer via its customer service before the problem can be corrected. Otherwise, the website isn’t performing as it should and sales are being lost. The result is the same as with a hosting service with unreliable servers and low uptime: money is lost.
If you are a small company without an IT staff, you have no choice but to rely on your hosting service to help you out of technical glitches and problems. Sometimes you will need some advice about the feasibility of trying something new with your site. This won’t happen with poor customer service. If your site gets hacked because of an oversight on your part, or if the database of your site crashes because of a new plugin you’re using, or if your site gets corrupted, or if your blog is inundated by millions of spam bots, you will need customer support.
So far it’s been assumed that your hosting company is perfect and have shown how this doesn’t matter when there is no feedback between the two vital parts of your website: the team that manages the content (you) and the team that manages the hardware (your hosting service). Both have to be working together as a team, otherwise you don’t have a viable setup. The technically perfect hosting service minus good customer support is not a reliable web host.
In addition to the problems mentioned above, there is a very disturbing implication about any company that has poor customer service: the customer occupies the bottom rung of its priorities.
